The place had a character all its own. Heavy rough-sawn cypress walls, wooden booths, a massive fireplace, glowing neon beer signs,

and a long concrete oyster bar created the perfect setting. Peanut shells covered the terrazzo floor, while the unmistakable sound of patrons crunching peanuts echoed throughout the building. In the corner sat the enormous commercial oyster steamer with its round submarine-style hatch, turning out endless trays of fresh Apalachicola oysters. Wednesday nights became legendary: ten-cent oysters and one-dollar Heinekens.
